55 years on, since End of Steam on London Transport
Sat 6 June-Sun 7 June 2026
This year sees the milestone of 55 years since the end of steam on the London Transport system.
Engine House resident L.95 spent its working life with GWR and BR as 5764, based at Old Oak Common depot from July 1929 to April 1960. It was used on empty coaching stock workings into Paddington terminus, and trip freight and shunting work in the West London area. In May 1960, after an overhaul at Stafford Road Works, Wolverhampton, it was sold to London Transport, repainted into their maroon livery, renumbered L.95 to work on their Underground system in yards and on engineers works trains until 6 June 1971.
