NEXT MEETING

Tuesday 6th January 2026

” LTM Heritage Train Operations - - Is there any future in this?”
With Graham Neil.

The London Transport Museum are currently operating several Heritage Train events each year, but these are becoming more and more constrained by operational needs, and by the introduction of the new signalling systems on the London Underground which prevent (by law) regular passenger operations where the train is not compatible with the existing signalling system. Graham Neil has had a long and eventful career with London Underground/TfL and will describe some of the limiting factors that constrain existing heritage train events and what future changes to these train operations may occur. Graham will also look at what potential solutions are being investigated to try to allow the LT Museum to continue to provide these very popular events in future.

FUTURE MEETINGS

Tuesday 3rd March

“A Whistle-stop Architectural History of London Underground stations” with Edmund Bird – TfL’s Heritage Manager.

This will encompass the growth of the network over the last 162 years, an
assessment of the great diversity of architectural styles of station design in this period, the key players in the development of the system, the different forms of heritage protection and historic asset identification that protect this outstanding legacy and how we respond to the enormous challenge in adapting our architectural treasures to the demands of the modern railway and passenger expectations.

Edmund has worked for TfL for nearly 20 years and has been a conservation officer for nearly 40 years working for the Greater London Authority and managing the heritage teams at Lambeth and Camden, with his early years working in the planning and heritage teams in the cities of Bristol and Lichfield.

Our meetings venue, which is located very near to Farringdon station, has got step free access to the room which we are now using, via a lift.  However, unlike our previous venue, no refreshments will be available.

There are numerous suitable eateries in the immediate area for you to use either before or after you attend a meeting, should you wish to do so.

The address is:

“The Gallery at Alan Baxter,”
77 Cowcross Street, London, EC1M 6EL.

Upon exiting Farringdon station from the (original) Circle, Hammersmith & City and Metropolitan Line side, turn left, and the venue is just around 100 yards along on the right-hand side.

To find the meeting room, go through the gates, walk straight ahead, and follow the large sign on the wall pointing right to The Gallery’s location, down a short flight of steps. Lift access, should you need it, is available through the glass doors on the right, just after you’ve entered the courtyard.

Our meeting room is located on the lower floor.

Due to the required finishing time that we now have, doors will be open at 18.00 for an 18.30 start for each meeting.

For the time being, meetings will continue to be held on a bi-monthly (every two months) basis.
